how i divide up my online life
I know that I have a special journal entry on my site where I keep people informed about how much Fresno... well... sucks. Some Fresnoites find it pretty harsh, but what I like about Fresno is that so many people in Fresno seem to embrace its suckitude.
During my occasional fun bits of research on all that sucks about Fresno, I recently stumbled upon a blog entry that mentioned a Fresno band -- not sure what their name was -- that wrote a song named "Fresno sucks". And you know, that's kind of cool.
Really, I think probably the coolest thing about Fresno is that it has lots of young, pissed off, rebellious youth. I hear it has a pretty good local music scene, and a pretty good gothic scene too, and that's almost certainly because people who grow up in Fresno actually have something to rebel against!
And I think that's kinda cool.
Perhaps if the youth of Fresno embraced their city's suckitude and reveled in it a bit, they might inadvertently turn their little hellhole into a countercultural oasis.
But then again, it's too damn hot for doing that kinda shit, and the mall is air conditioned...
"Fresno is cool because it's only hours from L.A., the Bay Area, SLO, Yosimite, etc, etc, etc..."
That's like me saying that i'm cool, not because i'm actually cool, but rather, because my neighbors are cool. My truly cool neighbors that live hours away. Do people in the Bay Area tell their naysayers
"The Bay Area is only hours from Fresno"
Ooooh, i hate Fresno. carma will see to it that i am shot or ran over by a taco truck next time i visit.
I think one of my main motivators to go through grad school in Scotland is so that when I'm asked where I went to college I can say Glasgow and never have to mention Fresno.
